"This was from an earlier post, but I think will help out your situation. The most common problems leading to poor water quality are related to food debris and urine/stool in the water-leads to significant..."

"I have a yellow bellied slider and would love to find a way of getting a larger aquarium and easier way of maintaining one. I have to clean it every five days and it stinks so bad no matter how many chemicals I add to the water."

Basic information from the Nov '07 meeting including balanced pond compnents, feeding, UV light....just an overview of a few things.

"Time to dust off your turtles people. Now that its warming up, we're getting ideas together for meetups during the summer....hopefully see a little sunshine. Doris will be posting info for the next meetup-possibly..."

  • "Hey! did you end up introducing any of your turtles into your pond? The temp. is finally getting nice in the water."

  • "Hey. Looks like turtles are coming out of hibernation-I came across a hatchling snapper the other day. Just wanted to let you know the next meeting is in the planning. Woot!"

  • "Hey! how are you guys doing? Have you been planning pond construction lately? I was just talking with Doris about a next meeting. "

"I've ALWAYS wanted a box turtle as a pet, does any group member or members have extras to give away or sell to a good home?"

  • "I just wanted to hear some opinions on something. I've been seeing more breeders and web sites advertising turtles for sale (most are red ear sliders) with genetic abnormalities- some are color variations,..."

  • "Hey, welcome! If you are looking for turtles, the pet stores wont sell them in NC, but you can purchase them online or at exotic shows. www.kingsnake.com sells quite a bit-look under classifieds. Some dealers are reputable and some are questionable-just use your best judgement."

"I love turtles! Can't buy them as pets, so I'm always hoping to see some in the wild. There was one (actually, a tortoise) living in some bushes next to my old house. It was great!"

  • "Hey guys! I'm relatively new to aquatic turtles, and I can't seem to sift through all the opinions online. I currently have a 20 gallon long tank (filled half-way), with 3 tiny turtles living in it. I..."

  • "Hey Veronica! I was wondering what kind of filtration system you are using for your aquatic turtles. I'm relatively new to aquatic turtles, and I can't seem to sift through all the opinions online. My turtles are still tiny babies, but already they generate tons of waste. My Reptifilter isn't really doing a great job. Undergravel? Cannister? What do you think? Thanks, Elizabeth in Holly Springs"

"Hello! We moved to Holly Springs in June of 07 & have 3 turtles that we have inherited &/or adopted in the last few months. We have a RES, a Map & a Hieroglyphic River Cooter. :) We would love to adopt a land turt. too. Anyone have any suggestions?"

  • "I breed Russian (Afhgan) Tortoises, Albino Red Eared Sliders, Greek Tortoises, and Sulcuta tortoises. I have just purchased a pair of Alligator Snappers, Egyptian Tortoises, and Indian Star Toroises. "

  • "I'm currently giving away my Central American Wood Turtle to a good home, and if anyone would like to adopt him/her they can email me their info at: arobles1@csusb.edu Thank You ~Angel"

  • "My wood turtle is a teenager, LOL. He is eating well, active, and is a healthy well mannered little guy. In the book Turtle and Tortoises of the world the author lists this species as the most beautiful of all the turtle species. He/she can be kept like a box turtle and thrives on a diet of Red-Leaf Lettice/Bannana's/ and earthworms (which can be picked up at walmart or any fishing supply store). This turtle comes from a captive breeder from Southern California. Regards, Angel M. Robles "

  • "Hey! I've been looking into the tours at the NC Zoo and NC State Turtle Rescue. NC State Turtle Rescue is actually moving to a new location over the next week and at the moment they have no in-house patients...."
