Introduction:

"We just moved from Paris to Borex, because we prefer relaxed country life over hectic city life. The first thing we added to our garden was a bird feeder. We hope to attract other wild creatures as well, to offer them a safe home on our property."

"Having kept no reptiles of any kind, we have none of those items to exchange. We've lready signed up for our first club meeting, and expect to attend meetings whenever we have no other obligations on those days."

Describe the kinds of turtles or tortoises you keep or have kept as pets. How are they housed and fed? Have any of them produced offspring while in your care? Do you have any questions, or can you offer advice, about their care?

"Our family has never had pet turtles or tortoises, but we'd consider keeping them after we learn enough about their care. We hope everyone in this club buys their pets directly from experienced breeders, to assure they weren't caught in the wild."

Are you mostly interested in keeping turtles and/or tortoises as pets, or in preserving their habitats to assure their survival in the wild? Are you interested in other reptiles, amphibians or other animals? What other specific interests do you have?

"We're very concerned about the human encroachment into wild areas, paving over fields and woodlands to build homes and shopping centers. The natural environments of turtles and tortoises must be preserved before the native species become extinct."

Additional information:

"The plight of turtles and tortoises living in their diminishing natural environments is serious. The club should schedule a discussion on this problem every few meetings, and also educate the public - especially children - to respect all animals."
