Introduction:
"We're semi-retired, and live in Eysins, just northwest of Nyon. We're avid water gardeners, and have one large and three small water lily ponds in our garden. Our aquatic turtles use all three small ponds for their home. We have no land tortoises."
Do you have any turtles, tortoises, incubators, shelters, books or other items you'd like to exchange with other club members? Have you decided whether or not you can attend our next monthly meeting? Please submit your RSVP on that meeting's page.
"Our turtles hibernate in the mud at the bottom of our ponds, so we need no shelters - nor incubators, at least until we find mates for our charges. We'd certainly like to borrow some turtle-care books in English; our French isn't that good yet."
Describe the kinds of turtles or tortoises you keep or have kept as pets. How are they housed and fed? Have any of them produced offspring while in your care? Do you have any questions, or can you offer advice, about their care?
"We have a softshell turtle, a European pond turtle, and an eastern painted turtle. We don't know the genders of any of them. None of them are married, anyway, so they've produce no progeny. We need more advice on turtle care than we can offer."
Are you mostly interested in keeping turtles and/or tortoises as pets, or in preserving their habitats to assure their survival in the wild? Are you interested in other reptiles, amphibians or other animals? What other specific interests do you have?
"We were mostly interested in keeping goldfish as pets, not turtles. But our fish bred so promiscuously that we had many more than we could support, so we acquired the turtles as a means of control. Now we've fallen in love with the turtles as well."
Additional information:
"If other members of the Society have any of the same species as we do, let's act as matchmakers and set up a blind date for our turtles. If they fall in love, we might have some hatchlings to share."

Meetups

  • Geneva Area Turtle and Tortoise Society

"We felt an instant bond to those whom we met in this organization--not just because we share an affection for turtles and tortoises, but because the group's members are all so friendly, outgoing, intelligent, amusing, and curious about everything. Suzanne and Peter have somehow gathered together a marvelous collection of interesting people, all of whom are passionate about turtles, tortoises, and dozens of other subjects. We're glad we joined the group."

"Some members are interested in raising aquatic plants; others are more interested in breeding goldfish, as I am. I did meet two others who are cross-breeeding shebunkins to establish particular colors and patterns, which is my special interest. (We've arranged to exchange breeding stock to improve our strains.) But I realize that Suzanne and Peter's ponds are so beautiful because of the wide variety of aquatic plants blooming there. I decided to add many to my own ponds, and Peter gave me all I want for free. I love how much they now enhance my water garden."
