Chris Bennett

Introduction:

"I'm Chris Bennett, an American who moved with my partner from Mexico to Switzerland (Grand-Saconnex). We're just now beginning to learn some French. We have a small goldfish pond, a large koi pond, and a long shallow stream connecting them."

Do you have any turtles, tortoises, incubators, shelters, books or other items you'd like to exchange with other club members? Have you decided whether or not you can attend our next monthly meeting? Please submit your RSVP on that meeting's page.

"We have none of the accessories mentioned--not even a single tortoise book--to exchange with others, because we've been guessing about what our box turtle needs. We hope to learn a lot at these get-togethers. We'll be at the organizational meeting."

Describe the kinds of turtles or tortoises you keep or have kept as pets. How are they housed and fed? Have any of them produced offspring while in your care? Do you have any questions, or can you offer advice, about their care?

"We have a box turtle (actually a tortoise, smuggled in from Mexico in our luggage) wandering over our garden in summer and in our house in winter. He's a bachelor, so he's produced no offspring (that we know of, but you know what men are like)."

Are you mostly interested in keeping turtles and/or tortoises as pets, or in preserving their habitats to assure their survival in the wild? Are you interested in other reptiles, amphibians or other animals? What other specific interests do you have?

"I'm concerned with both interests, but mostly want to discuss tortoises with other owners of these fascinating animals. In Mexico, many wild lizards lived in our garden, and two iguanas were tame enough to eat out of our hands."

"We're also members of the Geneva Area Pond Club. If we learn as much through the Geneva Area Turtle and Tortoise Society, our pets will be the best-cared for animals in Switzerland."
