Location: Chavannes ch
- Introduction:
- "I'm Pat Nicholas, an expatriate from the US. I live in Chavannes with two tortoises in my garden and two dozen goldfish in my pond. I'm glad there's both a turtle and tortoise group and a pond group nearby through which we can meet other hobbyists."
- Do you have any turtles, tortoises, incubators, shelters, books or other items you'd like to exchange with other club members? Have you decided whether or not you can attend our next monthly meeting? Please submit your RSVP on that meeting's page.
- "My shelters are shallow wooden wine-bottle boxes turned open-side down, with a semi-circular opening on one end. The boxes are readily available, but I'll give some to Society members in need. I'll attend every meeting my hectic schedule permits."
- Describe the kinds of turtles or tortoises you keep or have kept as pets. How are they housed and fed? Have any of them produced offspring while in your care? Do you have any questions, or can you offer advice, about their care?
- "I have a male red-foot tortoise and a female sulcata tortoise who live in my garden in the summer (with shelters for shade or rain) and in my house in the winter (where they're active but slow). Should they hibernate outdoors every winter instead?"
- Are you mostly interested in keeping turtles and/or tortoises as pets, or in preserving their habitats to assure their survival in the wild? Are you interested in other reptiles, amphibians or other animals? What other specific interests do you have?
- "I'm eager to learn all I can about keeping tortoises, and to acquire mates for the two I have. They're of different species, so they've been celibate all these years (a condition I'd regret even more than they). I'm also interested in pond fish."
- Additional information:
- "Exchanging ideas and experiences with other tortoise owners is the best way to learn about their care, feeding and breeding. I think there's only one Meetup group in the whole world on this topic, and it's right in our own area. We're really lucky."

Meetups
-
Geneva Area Turtle and Tortoise Society
"I never met a more interesting and interested group of people. Whether they knew a lot or just a little about turtles and tortoises, everyone was eager to learn more from the herpetologists at the meeting. This group should grow quickly, and be of benefit to all turtle and tortoise keepers, as well as to their charges."
-
Geneva Area Pond Club
"Members range from novices planning their first pond to very knowledgeable experts, making a nice mix. All seem friendly, and welcome newcomers enthusiastically."
