Introduction:
"We're native New Yorkers now living in Nyon, some 15 minutes from Geneva. Peter has more experience with chelonians than Suzanne does. He's been an active member of turtle and herpetological societies in the U.S., and was editor of their publications"
Do you have any turtles, tortoises, incubators, shelters, books or other items you'd like to exchange with other club members? Have you decided whether or not you can attend our next monthly meeting? Please submit your RSVP on that meeting's page.
"Whenever our turtles and tortoises produce hatchlings, we can exchange some babies for those of other Society members to improve both gene pools. We also lend and borrow books, incubators and other items. As Society founders, we attend every meeting."
Describe the kinds of turtles or tortoises you keep or have kept as pets. How are they housed and fed? Have any of them produced offspring while in your care? Do you have any questions, or can you offer advice, about their care?
"Our personal pets now include Hermann's tortoises (one of which recently laid eggs again) strolling in our garden, and red-eared sliders swimming in our goldfish and water lily ponds. We eagerly both give and get advice about their care and feeding."
Are you mostly interested in keeping turtles and/or tortoises as pets, or in preserving their habitats to assure their survival in the wild? Are you interested in other reptiles, amphibians or other animals? What other specific interests do you have?
"We're concerned about the loss of natural habitats, but are more involved in the studying, raising and breeding of turtles and tortoises. We've created a Turtle and Tortoise Sanctuary, adopting and caring for unwanted pets and injured wild specimens."
Additional information:
"We're also the leaders of the Geneva Area Pond Club, of interest to local water gardeners. Its web site at http://ponds.meetup.com/1/about also offers free membership, and details of the free monthly meetings. You're welcome to join both groups."

"Every new member of the Society tells us how warmly they were welcomed at their first meeting. All our long-time members seem to be eager to meet newcomers who have a love for turtles and tortoises. The members share their experiences and anecdotes about their own pets, and appreciate the sound advice they get from the expert herpetologists who attend the monthly meetings. These events are both educational and enjoyable social events. We've made many new friends through this organization, most of whom we never would have met otherwise, and frequently meet them for social activities between Society meetings."

"All those attending the latest meeting were openly friendly, and strangers became friends in short order. Groups of various sizes formed naturally when discussing specific points about water gardening, and regrouped in other combinations as more members joined in and new subjects came up. Although our get-togethers are scheduled to last from 3 to 6 p.m., we've had times when the conversations didn't end until 11 p.m. We hope those attending tell their friends about our group, its web site, and the free membership and twice-monthly meetings, so that the club will continue to grow."

  • Patient to a fault.
An inspiration to organisers all over the world.
I bet my fish wish they were in your pond, not mine.

  • I'm normally shy and retiring, and uncomfortable in groups of any size. But I had enough courage to join the club, and Suzanne and Peter greeted me warmly when they met me. They introduced me to each member at my first meeting, and told everyone how beneficial the natural-looking pond I made was for the visiting wildlife. The others asked me for all the details, and I found myself speaking very comfortably at every club meeting since then. Suzanne and Peter are supportive of every new member.

  • We belong to both organizations this couple founded, and have met the nicest people we know in each club. The nicest of all is Suzanne, always cheerful and outgoing, making all new club members feel welcome. And Peter's decades of experience with ponds, water plants, goldfish, turtles and tortoises have made him an expert on all these subjects. We're proud to call Suzanne and Peter our friends.

  • Suzanne and Peter's genuine enthusiasm for ponds and for turtles inspires all the members of their organizations to get more involved. They're perfect leaders.

  • I love Suzanne and Peter's energy and dedication. They inspire me to do better with my own group.
